Funny story of the day.....

I took the baby to the doctor's office today for her 2 month well baby checkup. I had several concerns about the wee one (what mama isn't concerned about SOMETHING!) to address. One of them being her extreme fussiness and her spiting up so much. My other 2 girls never cried as much, nor did they spit up the fountains of milk that this little one does.

The doctor came in and immediately wanted to hold her. Why wouldn't he? She's pretty darn adorable! I warned him that he would really need the burp cloth, but he declined. I did my best to warn him. Ah well, he asked for it! He was just holding her and I was telling him all about her fussing and crying and puking.....and all the while he was gently bouncing her, and trying to get her to smile. MUHAHAHAHA

The baby let out a tremendous belch, followed by a huge gush of spit up. All over the doctor.

I congratulated him, the baby had taken yet another victim.

He thanked me, looked down at his shirt and remarked, "Well, I was going to write you a prescription for reflux, but she has spit up all over my prescription pad."

I suppose it might have been her own little way of getting back at that mean doctor in advance for the shots she got later. Fair trade, I think.

Things that go "burp" in the night....

For some reason, I'm horrible at burping the baby. I just can't seem to get the bubble to come up...so I pass off the wee one to my husband, who magically makes the baby burp in about 5 seconds.

And now I figured out why.

Last night, I was awakened in the middle of the night not by a fussy cry of an infant, but by the sound of rhythmic thumping. I looked around for what was making the noise, and it was my husband! He sounded like he was trying to burp the baby. ONLY, THE BABY WAS IN HER CRIB ACROSS THE HALL!!! My DH was patting the side of his leg, IN HIS SLEEP, for about a full 3 minutes! I didn't dare wake him, it was just too funny watching him trying to make a bubble come forth from an imaginary baby!

Yup, my husband is such a great baby burper, because he practices it in his sleep when I'm not looking!

It's a girl!!!!!

It's been a while since I have posted, that is because I have been in the hospital witnessing one of God's greatest miracles.

The morning of the 17th, I went into the hospital to have a c-section. After we first checked in and were heading down the hall to our room, we spotted a familiar face. It was our pastor! I had mentioned to him the day before at church that we would be having the surgery, but had never dreamed that he would actually be there! It was wonderful....I don't think that I can ever put into words just how comforting and how well loved I felt at having him show up for the arrival of our newest addition.

When the time came for our surgery to begin, and the op nurse came to take me down to pre-op, the pastor stopped everything and asked for prayer. At that moment, God's peace came over my jittery self, and I knew that I was indeed, in His Hands. We picked up several other people that were going to be receiving other types of surgery that morning, and headed to the elevator. Further conformation that I was in the Father's Hands came right after the pre-op nurse hit the call button for the elevator.

My water broke.

Yep. I knew right then that my baby was going to be born, one way or the other in the next few hours. Someone ran to get a wheelchair, as water pooled into my shoes. My cute little brown shoes with the little bows on the top, are now ruined, by the way. Small price to pay for the little miracle that I now hold in my arms.

The surgery went well. I caught a small glance of my little angel over the curtain that separated my head from my abdomen, and then one tiny stroke of her cheek before she was whisked away to the nursery. 3 hours of recovery later, I was holding her in my arms.

And I cried. So tiny, so perfect. I got a glimpse of the face God that morning.....His purpose and the meaning of His unconditional love for me, made completely clear.

Pregnancy and Craziness

Things I love about being pregnant:
  • food cravings (this time around I can't seem to eat enough soup, or grapefruit!)
  • feeling the baby moving
  • folding little itty bitty baby clothes (over and over and over again!)
  • nesting
  • the general idea that the family is expanding
  • getting to skip ahead in line when waiting to use a public rest room
  • long beautiful fingernails, and really thick hair (Oh man, I love prenatal vitamins!)
  • pregnancy libido (no comment necessary here! )
  • people telling my how great I look (even if they are lying!)
  • shopping for baby stuff. This time, used items are the way to go! Online yardsales are the best!
  • picking out names
  • ultrasounds
  • heartbeats
  • watching the lumps that move around, and trying to figure out which lump is a hand, a foot, a knee, an elbow or a little tushy
  • Knowing that God is the only one responsible for the human life that is growing inside of me. He chose me...of all people, to care for one of His most precious creations.
Things that I miss horribly while being pregnant:
  • sleeping comfortably (notice I didn't say 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep...because I know what's coming soon!)
  • my belly button
  • Endless cups of coffee (I used to drink about 8 cups of coffee, somehow I have managed to cut back to about one or two cups a day!)
  • An occasional glass of wine
  • comfortable activities with my husband
  • normal clothes
  • hot hot baths (you know the kind...where you try to melt your skin off. This aren't allowed for fear that you will cook your baby :( )
  • playing comfortably on the floor with my other children
  • my lap...my poor little girls have no place to sit when I read to them!
  • breathing deeply
  • sleeping on my stomach
Things that I WILL NOT miss about being pregnant:
  • stretch marks (I wonder if I should post a picture of what my stomach looks like!)
  • maternity clothes (especially this time....they did away with full paneled pants, and now it's just a half panel! I can't keep any of my pants from falling down! And the shirts!!!! They are too short to cover anything the size of a grapefruit, much less the size of a woman carrying something the size of a watermelon!)
  • oh-so-sexy support stockings!
  • heartburn
  • these stinking leg cramps I've been getting at night
  • people telling me that I'm huge! For crying out loud...never tell a preggo woman that she is huge or compare her to other people that are pregnant. She already knows she looks huge.
  • depleted energy (what do you mean I have to make the bed! I'd rather just stay in it all day long and read a book)
  • going to the bathroom 50 bazillion times a day.
  • contractions, contractions, contractions! Whoever invented Braxton Hicks contractions (and said that they don't hurt!) was obviously a man....these contractions really do hurt!
  • Fatal attempts at doing housework, especially when it requires bending and lifting!
  • People asking if I'm expecting twins
  • People asking if I know what I'm having yet (I'm having a baby! A baby human! It's not a puppy or an elephant, I swear!)
